CCAP CONGRATULATES PRESIDENT OBAMA FOR ANNOUNCING NEW U.S. GHG STANDARDS FOR PASSENGER VEHICLES
Washington, D.C. — Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) President Ned Helme today released the following statement in response to President Obama’s plans to issue new national greenhouse gas (GHG) standards for passenger cars and trucks:
“CCAP applauds the President and Governor Schwarzenegger for charting a course that will save consumers money, boost the competitiveness of the U.S. auto industry, improve energy security and protect the planet from the impacts of climate change.
“President Obama and the Governor have crafted a win-win solution. With these new federal standards, the state of California will be able to implement its motor vehicle GHG standards, and there will be more certainty for the national auto industry regarding what vehicles can be manufactured with a single, harmonized standard. CCAP is also pleased that consumers will have more highly efficient vehicles from which to choose.
“In addition, this is a historic and valuable step as the U.S. gears up to pass national climate change legislation and prepares for the crucial international climate change negotiations in Copenhagen this December.”
