CCAP AND TSINGHUA UNIVERSITY JOIN FORCES TO STUDY GHG MITIGATION IN ASIA-PACIFIC

On May 11, 2009, CCAP and the Institute for Environmental Systems Analysis at Tsinghua University co-hosted a Sectoral Study and Policy Implementation Workshop in Beijing, China on GHG mitigation options and policy recommendations in China’s electricity, cement, iron and steel, and aluminum industry sectors.

The workshop was jointly sponsored by the European Commission (EC) and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) who fund the current CCAP China project. Participants included Chinese governmental officials, representatives from regulatory agencies and industry associations, academic researchers, industry experts, and NGO representatives.

On May 13, CCAP and Tsinghua University hosted a regional workshop that focused on the experiences and lessons learned in climate change actions adopted by countries in the Asia-Pacific region. At this workshop, the Tsinghua team, ICF-India, and representatives from Japan, South Korea, and Australia discussed the developing countries’ need for technological and financial support.
