Chile Project

In 2001 CCAP collaborated with Climate Change and Development Consultants (CC&D) and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) on a project funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), in cooperation with a number of government agencies in Chile — principally Transantiago.

The project examined possible scenarios for using the CDM as a tool to promote sustainable development in Chile's transportation sector. Mobility challenges, strong modeling capacity, commitment to CDM, and excellent data sets all made Chile an ideal location in which to test transportation solutions.

The project concluded that while some transportation projects were amendable to implementation through CDM, sustainable transportation overall was much more likely to be achieved through a comprehensive land use and transportation policy.
