The Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) has an opening for a climate finance intern remote-based. Since 1985 CCAP has been a recognized world leader in climate and air quality policy working at the local, national and international levels. CCAP helps policymakers around the world to develop, promote and implement innovative, market-based solutions to major climate, air quality and energy problems that balance both environmental and economic interests.

Position Description

The position will support CCAP’s climate finance work. S/he will provide a comprehensive research, analysis, report-writing and conference-preparation support for CCAP’s projects related to climate finance, including knowledge generation and capacity building in developing countries. S/he will have the opportunity to contribute to research and analysis on national decarbonization and NDC investment strategies, climate finance transparency – including MRVs, sustainable finance taxonomy -, mobilization of private climate finance, and the collaboration of public and private institutions in financing transformational climate projects and programs. 

The position will have a close contact with climate finance associates and participate in cutting-edge climate finance advocacy work. The position has the possibility to work with other CCAP programmes such as Carbon Markets and Methane Mitigation. This is a paid full-time position. The intern will report to the Director of Climate Finance.

Responsibilities include:
 

• Research and quantitative analysis on developing-countries’ decarbonization strategies and pathways (i.e., Nationally Determined Contributions); and climate finance instruments and mechanisms.

• Drafting analytical reports and organization’s regular publications on the given thematic topics (e.g., Sustainable Finance, Transparency, Access to Finance, Decarbonization, environmental and climate risks).

• Assistance in the organization of meetings, workshops, and other events

• Interaction with outside technical consultants, experts, and international policymakers on various assignments

The intern will support one or more projects, for example:

• Climate Finance/Best Practices – Perform literature review on international climate policy and climate finance landscape.

• Sustainable Finance Taxonomies – Perform methodological review on sustainable finance taxonomies. 

• Catalyzing Climate Finance – Support in the development of financial instruments and financial mechanisms. 

• Transparency in Climate Finance – Develop material on transparency of climate finance. 

• Climate Finance Program Development – Support research and analysis for the design and implementation of innovative climate finance projects. Prepare presentation materials and for meetings with clients and draft meeting minutes.

Qualifications

• Current graduate student from a program in MBA, Public Policy, Economics, Finance, Environmental Science, or related fields

• Experience in climate change and environmental policy required

• Coursework or experience on access to finance and International Climate Funds (i.e. GEF, GCF, IKI, NAMA, etc.

• Excellent research, quantitative analysis and writing skills required

• Strong oral and written communication skills

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to quickly get up to speed on technical issues

• Fluency in English and Spanish/French, including the ability to speak and write to policy audiences is preferable.
