About the Event

CCAP, the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) and the Government of Nigeria are set to host an Official COP27 Side Event on November 14. The event, titled Transparency to Drive Inclusive Climate Action and Mobilize Finance, will take place on-site in Egypt at the Sharm El-Sheikh International Convention Center in the Thebes (150) room and virtually at 6:30 p.m. (Local Time).

Attendees can register for this event in advance by using this link. A tentative agenda (subject to change) is also available here, and more information regarding the speakers and panelists can be found on the ICAT website here.

The event will explore how countries are arranging and implementing the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) to enable inclusive and transformational climate action, employing forward-looking and innovative approaches in assessing climate mitigation, adaption, loss and damage and mobilizing climate finance. Speakers will include high-level government officials and national experts from ICAT partner countries, such as Nigeria, Argentina, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Senegal and South Africa. Representatives from CCAP, the ICAT Secretariat and the ICAT Donor Committee will also provide remarks.

Discussion topics will focus on the needs, challenges and enabling conditions for enhancing transparency in mobilizing climate finance and accelerating a just and gender-inclusive transition by tracking, monitoring and evaluation (M&E). The panelists will share their perspectives on their current transparency-related topics as well as country’s best practices and experiences. The event is expected to enhance knowledge on how countries have developed frameworks and tools for climate finance tracking and M&E to enhance national transparency.

CCAP recently presented the first version of the implementation guide on climate finance transparency to ICAT Secretariat, the project implementation partner Gauss International, and three countries where the guide is being applied. Understanding and reporting an accurate and comprehensive landscape of climate finance at the national level is essential for compliance with international agreements as well as successful NDC implementation. By establishing and implementing climate finance and the Enhanced Transparency Framework, the project will contribute to the ICAT’s ongoing initiatives that strengthen the transparency and effectiveness of climate policies and actions in developing countries.

CCAP will be actively involved in the climate action and discussions taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh during the weeks of COP27. To learn more about CCAP’s involvement at COP27, be sure to visit the resource hub on our website.
