Driving Clean Energy Solutions: Advancing Climate Policy for a Sustainable Future
Charting a course towards a sustainable future, the Climate Policy Initiative dialogue convened by the Center for Clean Air Policy on September 9, 2014, delved into critical aspects of the EPA's proposed Clean Power Plan and global advancements in defining nationally determined contributions. Emphasizing the importance of enforceable programs, the dialogue highlighted the role of clean-energy solutions, addressed potential pitfalls in the treatment of new NGCC emissions, and scrutinized the impact of existing nuclear plant regulations on emissions and compliance. The session urged EPA facilitation for states adopting mass-based standards, seeking certainty in their levels, and considering adjustments for specific scenarios. Vigilance against double counting was stressed, with a focus on encouraging clean energy solutions while preserving program integrity. The international landscape, with European countries and the US defining ambitious INDCs, was discussed, with a call for proactive and adaptable approaches to bolster climate leadership as we approached the 2015 negotiations in Paris.
