Waste Strategy Consultant – Francophone Africa

The Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) is a nongovernmental nonprofit that promotes ambitious climate action globally. Position Description:​

​

The Waste Strategy Consultant will support CCAP’s international methane mitigation and climate change work with a focus on effective strategies and action to reduce waste sector GHG emissions in the West African and Francophone African context. S/he will provide research, analysis, policy-writing, and workshop-preparation support for CCAP’s on-the-ground projects focused on waste sector mitigation. S/he will have the opportunity to contribute to research on important climate, waste and circular economy topics, including policies, tools, roadmaps and action plans to support waste sector transformation, at both the municipal and national level. The Waste Strategy Consultant will have contact with high-level, developing-country policymakers and sector experts and will participate in cutting-edge climate change policy work.

Responsibilities include:
 

  • Research and quantitative analysis on developing-country methane mitigation policies and strategies at the national and local level.

  • Policy analysis and writing for reports, best practice case studies, roadmaps, strategies and action plans. 

  • Interaction with outside technical consultants, high-level policymakers, and key stakeholders on various assignments. 

  • Preparation of presentations and other materials for international meetings and technical workshops. 

  • Conference support, including to participants, logistical support, and managing registration database.

The consulting position is available immediately for a 6-9 month duration. Based on performance and opportunities, there is potential for the contract to be extended or converted into a full-time position. 


Qualifications:

This is an ideal position for a waste expert with 5+ years of experience, particularly in the West Africa/ Francophone African region. S/he is looking to work on international climate policy at a cutting edge, non-profit organization. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, and manage multiple tasks. Specific qualifications include: 
 

  • Master’s degree in waste and/or environmental policy, engineering, political science, economics, environmental science or related field. 

  • Experience in environmental, climate, and waste policy in Francophone African country(ies) required. 

  • Excellent research and writing skills required. 

  • Fluency or professional proficiency in French, including the ability to speak and write to policy audiences, required.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Fluency in English required. 

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and timeliness with deadlines. 

  • Quantitative skills, including for GHG emissions analyses, understanding of business models and ROI, as well as statistical experience with R and/or Stata a plus.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office including: Teams, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
